Spider-Man: Far from Home is one of my favorite movies of the year. It is definitely one of my favorite Spider-Man movies of all time. It might even be a better movie as a whole than Avengers: Endgame.
I didn't have any expectations going in. The trailers looked a little generic to me but I was excited for Mysterio. I think Mysterio is one of Spider-Man's best villains. Most people see a guy wearing a fishbowl on his head and think that looks stupid as hell. I think his costume is really cool plus he looks like a guy who is hotboxing himself all the time. He is portrayed by the great Jake Gyllenhaal. He is one of the best actors of our generation. If you haven't seen any of his work go check out "Nightcrawler" and "Prisoners." I think Mysterio ends up being one of the best MCU villains. Mysterio is a master manipulator and an illusionist. He is a very smart and egotistical man. I like the way the movie used a real life threat to make Mysterio more credible and dangerous. He also knows how to use Peter Parker's guilt about Tony Stark's death against him.
The scenes where he gets to use his "powers" are the best scenes in the movie. They reminded me of the dream sequences in "Inception". These scenes should be seen on the biggest screen possible. Part of me wants to watch this movie again in IMAX but I'm also on a budget. The action scenes were loud and so entertaining with the set pieces in Venice and London being the stand outs. If it seems like I am being vague it's because I am. There are a lot of reveals in this movie that are better left unspoiled.
Tom Holland is great again as Peter Parker. The writers really put an emphasis on evolving his character. His struggle with being a teenager and losing his mentor has really taken a toll on him. It's totally fair that he just wants to be a kid enjoying high school without always having to save the world. This could also be the funniest Spider-Man movie of all time. Parker's best friend, Ned, draws some of the movie's biggest laughs. I like Ned more in this movie than I did in Homecoming. Some of the humor did fall flat though. Most of MJ's jokes didn't work for me and I never really bought into her and Peter's relationship. That is really my only complaint of the film. Everything else is wildly entertaining. This movie really surprised me.

The mid credits scene leaves the series on a much hyped cliff hanger. I am very excited to see where this series goes. They don't try to pack too much in like in Amazing Spider-Man 2. They keep the plot straightforward and easy to follow. I recommend this movie to everyone and not just MCU fans. The action, story, and acting are all on point. To be able to see two great Spider-Man movies back to back (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Far from Home) is a blessing. What a time to be alive! Go see this on the biggest screen possible and as soon as you can.
